Description
This lonely spot with the grass rustling from the coastal wind is a bus stop in Orcutt, California. In the background is the Santa Maria Airport with the foothills in the distance. The barbed wire is to keep grazing cattle from straying into the road.
Other than the quiet of the scene, what attracted me to this was the repetition of the curved arch in the Quonset hut in the background, the trash can, and again inverted in the bench's seat. I like to give the viewer two layers in my photography--the obvious and the not so obvious.
Orcutt, an unincorporated town of over 35,000, is on the southern border of Santa Maria, California, a city of over 106,000. This bench sits pretty close to the border between Santa Maria and Orcutt. Agriculture is the biggest employer in the area, so we retain a rural feel even though the area is booming with new restaurants and shopping springing up everywhere. I like to call the unique style of the area "rustique"--the older and rustier the antique, the better we like it!
If you enjoy hiking, wine tasting, micro-breweries, BBQ, rodeo, classic cars, antiques, and a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, check out Orcutt, California between Highways 1 and 101. I think you'll be glad that you did!

I like the single wildflower at the right side of the bench, something to admire while you're waiting. Great capture, Caitlyn! V#10
