Description
Horse and rider working as one! Horses used in tie-down roping are trained to come to a stop as soon as the lasso is thrown around the calf. The cowboy then dismounts, throws the calf down, and uses the rope in his teeth (called the pigging string) to tie any three of the calf's feet. All the while, his horse must keep tension on the rope holding the calf. The cowboy then remounts, moves forward to create slack on the rope, and waits six seconds to make sure the calf can not get loose.
This procedure has its roots in a cowboy's work where it is sometimes necessary to rapidly isolate and immobilize an animal for veterinary treatment.
