A slender California poppy bud sports a modest ruffle as an accent.
The state flower of California, Eschscholzia californica is a native wildflower in much of the west. It prefers a sunny location in poor, sandy soil. Though an annual in cold climates, on the mild central coast of California it is a perennial which blooms February through September.
Taken in Santa Maria, California with a Canon 5D Mark III. Digitally converted to black and white.

My favourite flower in a refreshingly different macro work! I have strong emotional memories of the California Poppy and grow it as a self seeded annual here in the UK, and the simple bud and the feathery leaves along with the delightful bokeh all work beautifully with the mono treatment here......L/F/Tweet
