Description
Eight seconds can probably seem like eternity on the back of a bucking horse. This cowboy has just past the eight second mark--hence the giant smile!
Rodeo has two kinds of events: roughstock and timed. Saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, and bull riding are all roughstock events. But, that doesn't mean time isn't involved. All saddle bronc riders have eight seconds for their ride.Their scores, however, are dependent upon what they and the horse do during that eight seconds. Two things can disqualify a rider. First, the cowboy can't touch anything with his free hand. Second, he has to hold his spurs above the horse's shoulders when he leaves the chute until the horse's front feet hit the ground after its jump out of the chute Not doing either of those will disqualify him.
There are two judges--each judge can award 50 possible points for a total of 100 points. Half of the possible points depend upon the rider's performance and half depend upon the effort of the animal, that is, how much they are bucking. I would say that the bronc looks like he put in a pretty good effort!
